Giuseppina Farris the village midwife who brought nearly all the inhabitants of the island of San Pietro into the world during the early years of the twentieth century was born here in 1876 – one hundred years after the founding of Carloforte.
Giuseppina, whose nickname was La Pimpina, was like a great mother to all; together with her husband, Nicola Rivano, assistant manager of the ocher quarries, they opened the first book and stationery shop in the village on the ground floor of the villa that became a meeting place for all the elementary school children.
Today Villa Pimpina is alive with the same spirit: a place of hospitality and sharing.
